[March 20, 2003] LIMSAT held its International Public Science Day 2003 activities in the gym at Nassau Community College and in the Reckson Visitor Center. [March, 2003] LIMSAT officially commences curatorial duties of permanently hosting the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame as Founding Sponsor, Computer Associates, steps forward to make it possible. The display area will be located on the South side of the Third Floor Observation Deck in the Reckson Visitor Center at Mitchel Field. Completion and opening ceremony TBA. [January, 2003] LIMSAT is getting set for International Public Science Day 2003. School administrators wishing to participate can call Norman Weingart at (516) 433-2086. [September, 2002] LIMSAT's outreach program, teaching about robotic missions to our Solar System, kicked off in August and is going strong. [July 5, 2002] LIMSAT appears this week on the cover and editorial section of the prestigious Long Island Business News. Article Editorial For more LIBN coverage, see www.libn.com [May 30, 2002] The ceremony for the Unisys Award in Online Science Education 2002 took place at C.W. Post, where representatives from AAAS and Unisys traveled from Washington D.C. for the presentation. [April 2, 2002] Unisys Award in Online Science Education 2002 awarded to LIMSAT/ EEV/ NTEA partnership. Proceeds from the award will go to the furtherance of online science education with a permanent station at LIMSAT representing the partnership. [March 20, 2002] LIMSAT/ LIU-EEV/ NTEA's International Public Science Day was a marvelous success with hundreds of student participants from South Huntington to South Harlem and a live webcast. Stay tuned for pictures. [December 2001] LIMSAT's collaboration with C.W. Post's Electronic Educational Village and Nassau Technology Educators Association on International Public Science Day has lead to our first joint project entitled, Keep The Heat. See the special web site in progress. [October 2001] With LIMSAT's Kings Park location closed, Director of Operations Janet Tempel finds a new home at Long Island Children's Museum. [July 2001] Even packed, LIMSAT held Marie Curie/ Women In Science events in July. Future Corps Moves LIMSAT Thanks to the efforts of Joan Imhof at Newsday's Future Corps, industrious students learned how to pack a museum. When our young helpers were finished, Plycon Movers graciously donated their time and services to truck all of our Kings Park attractions to storage space at Mitchel Field. [June, 2001] On Saturday, June 2, LIMSAT opened a terrific exhibit about Marie Curie and women who contributed greatly to nuclear science in the last century....More [June, 2001] Marie Curie/ Women In Science ran June 2 through June 30 at SUNY Farmingdale and our last Family Science Day at the Kings Park location took place on June 9. [May, 2001] LIMSAT adds Executive Director to staff. Benjamin Parris will create the business model, lead development efforts, and take up numerous other functions. LIMSAT's Director of Operations remains Janet Tempel. Another marvelous Family Science Day brought families from far and wide. February 2001. LIMSAT exhibits at State Assembly Science and Technology Education Day in Albany. On Saturday, January 13, 2001 we had one of our popular Family Science Days, throwing open the doors to everyone within reach of Newsday. It was not only the most successful Family Science Day, it was our most well-attended event so far. More Detail and Pictures. We had our second "Science Fair Help Day" on Saturday November 18, 2000. It was even more successful than the first. Pictures are on their way. LIMSAT and early bird students on local TV. At 5 a.m., May 30th, students from Mr. Simola's 4th grade class (Kings Park) began to arrive and prepare to participate in live television demonstrations and interviews. DETAILS LIMSAT was represented at the State Science Education Day in Albany. Click here for more information and picture. We had our first "Science Fair Help Day" on Saturday, February 12, 2000. On hand to answer their questions, make suggestions, and provide assistance, were a number of Long Island based scientists and engineers. Visiting students discussed their science fair ideas with working scientists from the fields of biology, chemistry, engineering, computers, physics, medical physics, and the behavioral sciences. Science Fair Help Day Pictures Hurricane Floyd: Click here to see a graphic presentation of several weather parameters before, during, and after passage of the hurricane. Our Weather Station is fully operational at Kings Park. We are presently accumulating local data at half hour intervals. Weather measurements include: wind velocity and direction, air temperature, barometric pressure, rain fall, and humidity level. Data for one day, one week, or one month, are available to any interested teachers (one 1.44MB floppy). Please Email your requests to us. We are presently looking for volunteers to help with the construction of several exhibits. We need: carpentry, electrical, electronic, amateur radio packet and APRS, and mechanical help. If you can provide a few hours a week, or can work on a project for us, please contact us. Although we are still building exhibits and furnishing the LIMSAT-Kings Park museum, we are welcoming student visitors and their families at scheduled events and by special arrangement. |
