Meet The Director

Benjamin J. Parris joined us from the LIMSAT Board of Directors where he held that position since 1997.

Outside of his career in financial management and educational programming, Ben has spent decades tinkering with the challenges of museum exhibits.  Originally a student of physics, Ben has retained an abiding interest in science, not as a scientist but as a science popularizer, keenly aware of the number of scientists and engineers, particularly at Grumman, who owed their careers to popularization of science.

As a LIMSAT volunteer for the past five years, his contributions included work on the Hiring Committee, Communications, Plans & Programs, Development, Operations Oversight, Internal Audit, Web Site Creation, and Funding Proposal Review.  A Long Island resident since 1994, Ben is passionate about helping New York, and Nassau and Suffolk Counties especially, achieve their potential in science education and economic development.  Beginning in 2002, he was named a Solar System Ambassador in a program sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
