Boy Scouts Dismantle Exhibit Booth Four Boy Scouts helped in our efforts to move out of the RJO School in Kings Park by offering to dismantle the Sound Shack. The ten by ten foot structure was intended as a sound proofed room in which students could hear how hearing impaired people hear, and to make experiments on the rate sound travels within a confined space. First Class Scout Matt Emma led three other scouts in a project that will help him toward his Eagle Scout status. Joining Matt were Mike Erman and David Vogel, both First Class Scouts and Andrew Kosick, Life Scout. Up to the challenge, the boys removed the door of the shack, took off the outside paneling, the roof and the roof rails, and then got down to the business of separating the walls into four foot sections. The Sound Shack was designed and built by LIMSAT Board member, Dr. Fred Kruger, as a unit that could be removed and rebuilt in our next home at Mitchel Field. Thanks to our Scout friends, the shack made the move successfully. From left to right...Matt, David, Mike, and Andrew |
